Female Pattern Baldness

Though baldness is typically associated with men, many women may also experience female pattern baldness. Women can suffer from many different types of hair loss. There are many options in fighting hair loss and fixing areas that are already bald.

Female pattern baldness can be frightening to many women. It can serve as an end to long, beautiful hair. Thinning hair or loss of hair can lead to embarrassment and insecurity.

How to Stop Female Pattern Baldness

There are various methods to consider when looking for a way to stop female pattern baldness. Many women use treatments such as hair creams, shampoos, holistic medicine, and hormone therapy. Others may purchase a wig to hide an embarrassing amount of hair loss.

The most effective method for treating female baldness is hair transplantation. Hair transplantation can be intense and expensive, but the result is often thrilling to women. Hair transplantation allows for women to regain a full head of hair permanently.

Herpes Zoster Symptoms

Herpes zoster symptoms can make for an excruciating few weeks. Thankfully, a few weeks is all it will normally take for the virus to run its course–though they might just feel like the longest weeks of your life. Once it's over, though, you can look forward to many zoster-free years ahead–the virus, like its cousin chicken pox, tends to only occur once.

Chicken pox can be a useful point of entry for understanding herpes zoster symptoms. Chicken pox affect a large portion of the body's skin; zoster, a much smaller percentage. Chicken pox can be itchy and painful; zoster can be itchy and incredibly painful.

Herpes Zoster Symptoms and Treatment

Unfortunately, there is no wonder drug that will get rid of zoster entirely–other than good ol' time, that is. But there are methods for lessening the pain and irritation. Cool or cold compresses can be vital to the easing of discomfort.

There are also oral medications and supplements that can be used to take away some of the sting of herpes zoster. One of these, called benfotiamine, can be especially useful in severe cases when the pain of zoster lingers after the virus has run its course. These cases are most often found in the elderly or those with compromised immune systems.

Continuing Education For Occupational Therapists

Patients Benefit from the Continuing Education for Occupational Therapists

The continuing education for occupational therapists is essential to the well-being of their patients. Anyone who is suffering from a chronic condition like lymphedema, or an injury to a part of the body, knows that it can seem overwhelming to even get out of bed and face the day. Occupational therapists play an integral role in the positive progression a patient makes throughout his or her therapy.

Occupational therapists are trained professionals who deal with all aspects of injury and disease management and therapy. They help patients handle the physical, emotional, and mental obstacles that often accompany debilitating conditions, such as arthritis, injuries from an accident, or lymphedema. Anyone who has ever gone from being a fully-functioning person to someone who is dependent on others for help, knows the pain associated with such circumstances.

Finding A Qualified Therapist

If you suffer from lymphedema, your doctor may recommend that you see an occupational therapist for regular treatments. If your doctor does not give you a referral, you must find an OT on your own. This can seem overwhelming but we'll give you some guidelines to follow that will help make your search easier.

It is important that you ask certain questions before hiring an OT to work with you. Make sure you ask a candidate where they got their training, how many hours of training they have had, what their certifications are, how long they have been doing Manual Lymph Drainage or Complete Decongestive Therapy, and if there is a doctor or nurse associated with their facility. Also ask them what type of continuing education for occupational therapists they have undergone, and ask them to provide references.

Chronic Fatigue Fibromyalgia

Chronic fatigue fibromyalgia is one of those effects of getting old that can really make you feel old. Fibromyalgia is often characterized by general loss of energy as well as pain throughout the body, most intense at so-called "tender points." These painful nodes occur in specific places, particularly at or near the upper and lower portions of the spine.

It's not just those of advancing years, however, that are prone to chronic fatigue fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is actually most common in women in the prime of their childbearing days, but can also effect the elderly and young as well. The disorder does not discriminate on the basis of age or of gender.

Treating Chronic Fatigue Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is very difficult to treat, since there is no known cause of it. Even correct diagnosis can be quite a trick, as many of the symptoms of the disorder are similar to those of other maladies. However, there are ways in which you can deal productively with the pain and discomfort.

Exercise and massage can be an effective way to loosen muscles and decrease soreness. You might also look into dietary supplements containing benfotiamine, as this thiamine derivative has been shown to help those suffering from Fibromyalgia. Benfotiamine has been successful in treating the symptoms of a number of different nerve-based ailments.

Causes Of Balding

Balding occurs when hair loss exceeds hair growth. There are many possible causes of balding. The most common cause is genetics.

Determining Causes of Balding

95 percent of all balding cases are related to genetics. Even if your father does not have balding problems, you can still obtain this gene if it exists anywhere in your family. It is a good idea to observe the hair of many family members before determining causes of balding.

There are other causes of balding beside genetics. A head injury or illness may cause balding in a certain area on the head. Some illness treatments such as Chemotherapy will also lead to hair loss. Balding may also be caused by stress, dehydration, and poor nutrition.

If baldness does not run in your family, you may want to consider using a topical product to thicken the appearance of your hair. Propecia is a prescription drug that you can take to prevent future hair loss. Finally, if hair loss becomes uncontrollable, you may want to consider hair transplantation surgery.

European Beauty Products Are Now at Your Local Drugstore

Drugstores such as CVS and Walgreens have a new marketing tool in the battle to remain competitive and relevant in today's always competitive retail market: beauty product imports.

A growing number of drugstores are beginning to introduce European lines in their health departments in hopes of taking some of the customers from traditional beauty counters in department stores. The tactic may just work.

Many of these imports contain much of the same sought after ingredients in products found at stores such as Sephora or department store makeup counters. These ingredients include retinol, peptides and antioxidants.

CVS is a good example of this emerging trend. Not only has the CVS chain rapidly expanded due to its acquisition of Sav-On drugstores, but the stores have all been renovated. They are easy to navigate and make shopping fun and easy.

The cosmetics sections in CVS stores are called Healthy Skincare Centers and feature French skincare brands such as Avene and La Roche-Posay. La Roche is the same product that used to be sold only through dermatologists in the United States.

The Healthy Skincare Centers also sometimes feature skincare consultants and because of the seemingly higher quality products, the prices tend to reflect that image. The highest priced beauty product now at CVS is $60, which is a far cry from many of the price tags under $10 for beauty products.

The new beauty inventory at CVS may not necessarily make customers who normally buy Oil of Olay skincare products convert to the imports. However, it has the potential of taking customers who would not normally shop at CVS for beauty products, away from other retailers.

Not only will people be getting the same product they would normally get at a mall, but they would get it without the hassle of having to go the mall and deal with pushy cosmetics representatives.

Target is another chain that introduced imported beauty products. After renaming their beauty departments, Bath & Body (which sounds all too similar to retailer Bath & Bodyworks) they also brought on brands such as Ma Provence and Italian shaving products from Proraso.

Similarly, Walgreens also introduced seven brands that are European in origin to its stores.

Whether or not the lines will do well enough to bring these companies enough money to stay on store shelves, is not really in question. Customers already showed that they were willing to purchase items at drugstores that they wouldn't normally buy at drugstores.

The gift cards to other retailers sold at drugstores is a good example of this as witnessed during the past holiday season.

More shoppers are willing to invest a little more of their attention at drugstores because of the convenience of these stores as opposed to going to traditional shopping centers to get what they need.

High-end beauty products may be just a tip of the ice berg when it comes to what drugstore executives think up next to put on their shelves.

Naturally Beautiful: Homemade Beauty Products You Can Make at Home

I, having been in the fashion and beauty industry, for almost 13 years so far, have been fortunate enough to have seen and tried just about every product ever created! Being in this industry also gives me the inside edge on tips and tricks that aren't often publicized. Some of the best beauty products I've ever tried, have come from my own kitchen! I have been given this advice over the years from colleagues, clients, and friends in this industry as well. Here's a list of some of my tried and true favorite homemade beauty products. Try one or try em all and you will see and feel the difference between these and mass-produced products. (Truthfully, there isn't a difference. Well, except price.)

Honey Face Scrub: Put 2 tbsp of almonds in a blender or food processor and grind them up finely. Then add 1/2 tsp of honey, 1/2 teaspoon of flour, and 2 tsp. of milk. Mix well until you have a thick paste. Massage gently onto skin, avoiding the eye area. Rinse off with warm water and pat face to dry! This scrub is ideal for use 2 to 3 times a week to slough away dead skin cells and restore baby soft skin!

Lemon Toner: Lemon juice acts as a natural astringent and this toner provides a tingly and invigorating balance for your skin. It is really strong, so it's important to dilute it with water. Mix 1/2 cup of lemon juice with 1 cup of distilled water, and 2/3 cup of witch hazel (found at health food stores and is GREAT to help combination or oily/acne prone skintones achieve balance and reduce shine). Pour concoction into a clean bottle. Shake well before each use. Apply with a cotton ball twice daily, after cleansing your face with your usual cleanser.

Aromatherapy Bath Salts: These luxurious bath salts will instantly transform your bath to a divinely relaxing experience. Start with 2 cups of epsom salts (found at any retailer or drug store) and add a few drops of aromatherapy oil (lavender, lemon, peppermint, rosemary, eucalyptus, vanilla, etc) in a jar. Mix or shake thoroughly. Then add 1/2 a cup of baking soda and shake the jar again. Add a handful of salts to bath and enjoy. Store salts in an airtight container when not in use.

Body Sparkle: No need to buy those blingy powders for your nighttime excursions (or to sahow off that new tan of yours). Make your own! Just mix plain cornstarch with some extra-fine craft glitter, which can be found at craft stores. Put it in a sugar or salt shaker so you can shake out just a little at a time, or buy some empty sifter containers, and take some with you on the go!

Totally Kissable Lipgloss: Mix together 1 tsp of petroleum jelly and 1 tsp of aloe vera gel. For a tasty twist, add a few drops of vanilla extract in the mix. Put the gloss into a small portable container and you are ready for a night on the town!

These are so easy, and so inexpensive, that you may want to share the secrets with everyone. Or, you may want to be a little stingy and share with no one. Just keep em guessing on your beauty secrets. One thing is for sure, you will be smokin hot when going out for a night on the town, or on that upcoming date!
